Grasslands Guardian Program

Logo Guardian Badge

The Guardian Program honors groups and landowners who are making a difference for biodiversity and wildlife protection.

The Guardians listed here have a deep love for our Colorado wildlife. These heroes are protecting keystone species without financial incentives, and we’d like to give them thanks. These landowners go above and beyond to thoughtfully manage their lands in ways that are in harmony with nature.

Guardians receive a certificate from Grasslands, a small one-time grant to help them with biodiversity goals, a plaque for their land, and a spotlight of their businesses if they have them, so our visitors can learn more about what they do and support them.

If you have land management practices which keep wildlife and biodiversity as a priority, please reach out and let us highlight you as an official Grasslands Guardian. Grasslands does yearly reviews of preserves to verify they are still in active management.

SUPPORT THE guardian PROGRAM

In order to offer support for Landowners to preserve their colonies and habitats, we need funding. If you agree that saving small prairie dog colonies is important to you. Please consider donating to our general “Ambassador and Guardian Program’ Grant fund.

Meet The Guardians

Mountain Meadows Colony

In the Heart of Douglas County Colorado, lies an incredible colony. Bell Meadow Farm is situated on a large acreage surrounded by the Pike National Forest. At our farm, we prioritize protecting wildlife and habitat and have coexisted with predators for decades using non-lethal techniques such as livestock guard dogs and proper shelter for our goats and chickens. We have provided a sanctuary for a beautiful colony of prairie dogs on this land and enjoy seeing all of the benefits this keystone species brings to the wild community that depends on them. Our farm specializes in selling raw goat milk shares, fresh eggs, and organic produce.
